Gothic
Gothic 2017
This series of brooches and pendants are inspired by the gothic cathedrals of the 12th and 13th centuries. I’ve always held a strong fascination with the splendor of these architectural marvels. The meticulous attention to detail on such a grand scale has been a constant source of inspiration in my work. I have longed to capture the beauty of a grand cathedral and replicate it into a piece of jewelry. To accomplish this, I dissected the architectural elements I found most desirable and arranged them into new compositions.
Each piece is fabricated in sterling silver and finished to look slightly antique, much like the weathered, grey stone of a cathedral. The use of a colored gem in the small rose window represents stained glass and the floral design is inspired by the embellishments found on cathedral facades. The addition of arches, frames, and other small visual details have been carefully combined to create wearable pieces of gothic architecture.
